John Black account book, 1775-1794 1783-1784.

Account book dating from 1775-1794 kept by John Black as a tax collector of Burlington County, New Jersey. The volume includes his accounts with various township tax collectors for 1783-1784, a list of the names of the tax collectors of each township dated 1783, and a list of taxes paid in each of the townships for 1775-1784. The last page is a list of aggregate census figures from July 1784 for Burlington County.

John Black (b. 1752), a tax collector in Burlington County, New Jersey, owned a large tract of land in Springfield Township. He served as a paymaster during the Revolutionary War in the New Jersey Militia. His children were Thomas (1784-1864), Mary, John (1788-1875), and Caleb.
