Administrative correspondence originating with St. Peter's is very scant. The history of the mission itself, from the Jesuits' first settlement attempts to their departure in 1898, is best represented in the series of outgoing status reports to the Jesuit General's Office in Rome. Researchers of local history and genealogy are also indebted to the Jesuit Archives in Rome (ARSI) for preserving the record of Fr. Point's initial missionary contact (1846-1847) with the Blackfeet. Subsequent sacramental records (1855-1895) have survived as well, with facsimiles in this collection and the originals housed at the Archives of the Catholic Diocese of Great Falls. School attendance records (1892-1894), another important genealogical resource, are to be found in the collection, but only as a snapshot during the mission's brief prosperity. The collection's few photographs tend to feature the mission buildings and grounds over the events and activities of its residents.
