The collection contains a scrapbook, ca. 1838-1889, of newspaper clippings, Worsham family Bible records, advertisements and drawings, kept by Mary Shields of "Mount Elba" in Cumberland County, Virginia. Among the clippings are poems by V.A.B. Shields, obituaries for William Clark and Dolley Madison, a tribute to Henry Clay by Thomas Ritchie, and speeches by John Quincy Adams, John C. Calhoun, and Daniel Webster. The collection also contains a manuscript "The banks of the Dee," by David Shields, Lexington, 1794 February 18 and a commission for William E. Worsham as Captain in the 24th Infantry, Virginia militia, 1848 April 8.
