This collection contains the real estate records of John Denn, covering the years 1784 to 1821. These records include land deeds and land survey maps. Included in the records are land deeds of properties purchased by Denn, mostly in Mannington Township in Salem County, New Jersey. Other deeds show property purchased by Denn in Lower Penn's Neck, Salem, Upper Alloway's Creek, and Elsinboro, all in Salem County. The real estate that Denn obtained possession of was from William Daniel, Edward Siddons, William Parret, Samuel Leake, John Redman, James Mason, Samuel Denn, Atkinson Conarow, and others. Denn's land deeds date from 1784 to 1821. These deeds are oversize, and are arranged chronologically. A land survey map of property in Lower Penn's Neck, New Jersey owned by William Parret is possibly related to the land deed dated January 17, 1795, in which John Denn purchased land from Parret.

John Denn was born in 1751, in Salem, New Jersey, the son of John and Elizabeth Denn. At an early age, he was apprenticed to his uncle David Bacon of Philadelphia, a hatter, to learn the trade. When he was of age, Denn returned to Salem County, and opened his own business in the village of Hancocks Bridge. A few years later, he relocated his business to the town of Salem.
