Samuel Frost orderly book, 1775-1779.

Orderly book kept by Sgt. Samuel Frost of Framingham, Mass., while serving in Capt. Thomas Drury's company, 5th Regiment Massachusetts Volunteer Militia (Col. John Nixon's regiment), stationed at Prospect Hill, Winter Hill (Cambridge, Mass.), and their headquarters during the siege of Boston, 27 Aug.-22 Sept. 1775. Included are orders relating to building of defenses, picket duty, uniforms, prisoners, and complaints; issues regarding court-martials, hospital care, and civilian interference; information about the commissions to militia officers, 20 Sept. 1775; and references to the formation of the attack on Quebec under Benedict Arnold, 5 Sept. 1775. Names include Gens William Heth, John Sullivan, Nathanael Green, and Richard Henry Lee; and Cols John Nixon, Abel Mason, Joseph Reed and Israel Putnam, among others. Also includes various personal entries made by Samuel Frost's brother Elisha Frost in 1779.
