These records consist of files kept by Boston Urban Gardeners' project and regular staff and include annual and other reports, newsletters, minutes, proposals, correspondence, material published by BUG, contracts, and plans. Among the projects documented are Compost, Lead in the Soil, Landscape Skills Training Program, Nesenkeag Farmstand Project, and work for public housing authorities. This collection also includes files from two separate organizations: South End Garden Project, and the Massachusetts Food and Agriculture Coalition (MassFAC).

Boston Urban Gardeners began in 1976 as a voluntary association of community leaders and garden organizers from the South End and Jamaica Plain sections of Boston, and from Roxbury. It quickly grew into a staffed organization with a number of funding sources.
