George C. Mergens photograph collection. 1919-1954.

Contains the following type of material: photographs. Covers the following war: World War II (WWII). Contains photographs of the following military units: 1st Area Service Command; 14th Infantry Regiment; 23rd Infantry Regiment. General description of the collection: The George C. Mergens photograph collection consists of photos of his military career from a military cadet in 1919 to his retirement in 1954. A photo album contains photos of his USMA, West Point, years. Mergens was assigned to the Infantry Branch. His career is followed via the photos from Schofield Barracks in Hawaii (1925) to the Philippines in (1938-1940), to the 1st Air Service area command (1942-1943), to Japan after the Armistice (1945-1947), and finally, to Korea. The majority of the collection are of photos of Japan and Korea. The two major units pictured are the 14th Infantry Regiment and 23rd Infantry Regiment.

George C. Mergens was a United States (U.S.) Army officer. He graduated from the United States Military Academy (USMA), West Point, in the Class of 1923. He was assigned to the infantry branch and was sent to duty stations at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, and the Philippines. He saw action with the 1st Air Service Command during WWII.
