Edward Bellamy letters and photograph, 1888-1894.

The collection consists of five items, four letters and a photograph. Includes: to E.H. Goss, 27 March 1888, thanking him for a congratulatory note on Looking backward, with some observations on the book; to Dear Mr. Lincoln, 7 June 1888, agreeing to a lecture, citing his uncertain plans for the summer; to Dear sir, 29 Feb. 1892, declining an invitation due to his mother's poor health but suggesting a meeting later; to W.M. Deisher, 9 March 1894, mentioning his new work, and declining an invitation. Also, cabinet card portrait of Bellamy, c1890 by A.J. Philpott.

Elbridge Henry Goss (1830-1908) was an active participant in the civic life of Melrose, Mass., and an author of books of local historical interest.
