Union officers of the Civil War carte de visite album, [ca. 1861-1865].

One album containing 107 carte de visite portraits of Union officers of the Civil War. The photographs were collected by Charles P. Bowditch. Each image has extensive notations on its verso, probably in Bowditch's hand; these notations have been photocopied, and the copies are included with in the case with the album. All of the photographs are identified. Most of the photographs were published by E. & H.T. Anthony of New York, N.Y. from negatives taken by Brady's National Portrait Gallery of Washington, D.C., ca. 1861-1865.

Charles Pickering Bowditch (born September 30, 1842; died June 1, 1921), was an early initiator and supporter of Meso and Central American research at the Peabody Museum. His interest in Maya studies was sparked by a pleasure trip to the Yucatan in 1888. Bowditch received both his A.B. (1863) and his M.A. (1866) from Harvard University.
