The Studebaker Corporation began making automobiles in 1902. It merged with the Packard Motor Car Company of Detroit in the 1950s. Born on Feb. 10, 1880 in Charleston, Ark. While vice president of engineering at Packard Motor Car Co., 1915-1949, Vincent developed the TwinSix, a 12-cylinder engine. During World War I he co-designed the Liberty engine and during World War II designed the PT boat engine and contributed to the design of the Rolls Royce fighter plane engine.
