Correspondence (1831-1882), diaries (1829-1882), land records related to the Half Breed Tract and Iowa and Wisconsin land grants, legal records including materials relating to railroad and patent cases, financial records, addresses, pamphlets and publications. One series (17 v.) in the collection, "The life and letters of Judge Charles Mason of Iowa," was arranged and edited by Mason's grandson, Charles Mason Remey. Two volumes contain the notes and illustrations of naval tactics of Admiral George C. Remey, Mason's son-in-law. Also included is a bound copy of the Congressional report "The U.S. Naval Astronomical Expedition to the Southern Hemisphere during the years 1849-1850-1851-1852, Volume II, 1855."
