Organizational records, 1984, 2007, undated, include the Great Lakes Lighthouse Keepers Association (GLLKA)'s Board of Directors' Meeting Minutes, Lists of Members, and Annual and other Financial Reports; Correspondence, including general correspondence, correspondence re: St. Helena Lighthouse, with Books-In-Print, and with various historical institutions; Subject Files, documenting the project grant for the oral history interviews, the interview forms, information about and photographic materials (negatives, photographs, and slides), CDs, and VHS video tapes of people who were interviewed; and the various publications, projects, and other endeavors of GLLKA. The oral history interview cassette tapes are in two small boxes. Materials documenting GLLKA and the Great Lakes Lighthouse Museum members attempt to have the National Lighthouse Museum site at Mackinaw include meeting minutes, subject files, letters of support, oversized building plans and drawings, and formal proposal materials Iin an oversized binder), mostly 1997-2006. Other oversized materials include Michigan House of Representatives Concurrent Resolutions, 1995, posters of Great Lakes Lighthouses and their locations that GLLKA has created and distributed, 2002, undated, and the Ninth Law of Congress, regarding the Establishment and Support of Lighthouses, Beacons, Buoys, and Public Piers, 1789 (20th c. copy and 1 p. transcription.). Slides, a video, pin, and bumpersticker are also included. Copies of GLLKA's publications are cataloged separately in the Clarke Historical Library. The collection is ongoing.

GLLKA was incorporated in 1983 as a non-profit organization. Its purpose is to facilitate the accumulation and exchange of information about the histories of Great Lakes lighthouses and their keepers, so that life at these stations may be accurately interpreted, their history preserved, and a new generation of preservationists developed.
