Mount Pleasant Indian Industrial Boarding School in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, was established by an act of the United States Congress in 1891. This provided funding for creation of an education system of off-reservation boarding schools and vocational training centers to educate Native American children. Padgett served 32 years in the U.S. Indian Service. He served as the Superintendent of the U.S. Indian School in Mount Pleasant, from Aug. 1924 to May 1926. Prior to Aug. 1924, Padgett served as the Superintendent at the Pipestone School in Minn.
