Slide collection, 2002, undated.

The collection of approximately 3,100 mostly black and white, with some colored, 35 mm slides. The slides document major and minor Mich. railroad companies, their cars, engines, tracks, depots, wrecks, and workers; Mich. towns on railroad lines, and the people, organizations, events, and buildings in them; logging camps, their crews, trains, kitchens, big wheels, and river jams; fires; ships and boats, special trains and train cars, and miscellaneous. Towns well documented in the collection include: Charlevoix, Deward, Ellsworth, Flint, Gaylord, Honor, Midland, Petoskey, and Traverse City (Mich.). Lumber companies well documented in the collection include: Stephan's Lumber Co., Waters (Mich.), and Yuill Bros. Lumber Co., Vanderbilt (Mich.). Two negatives of an unidentified railroad depots, and an inventory of the slides completes the collection.

The Ann Arbor Railroad began in 1878. The line began in Toledo, Ohio and ran northwest through Ann Arbor to Frankfort and Elberta, Michigan. It was officially incorporated on September 21, 1895.
