Charles Scribner, 1821-1871, was a partner in the publishing firm of Baker & Scribner, 1846-1871, and carried on alone after Baker's death in 1850. He formed Scribner & Welford in 1857. Adolph Bandelier was a prominent archaeologist in the Southwest and Latin America. His second wife Fanny Ritter Bandelier was intimately involved with his professional career, most often as a translator. The Bandeliers' were in Spain, locating and translating Spanish documents pertaining to the Southwest, at the time of Adolph's death in 1914.
