Mount Pleasant Indian School (Mount Pleasant, Mich.) collection, 2002.

The collection, compiled in 2002, includes photocopies of three lists created by the National Archives of their records. The lists are as follows: Mount Pleasant Indian Industrial School students, 1900-1946 (partial listing), giving the name of each student, their birthdate, and their age taken from the Federal Population Census of Michigan of June 8, 1900; a Register of pupils from Leelanau County, Mount Pleasant Indian School, 1914-1931, with a note that "this is NOT a complete list", giving the name of each student, their tribe, parent's name, address (city, state), percent of Indian blood, age, date admitted, years (enrolled in school), withdrawn and remarks, such as "joined army", who placed them in the school, if parents are ill or dead, etc.; and an Index of student case files, 1912-1946 and 1893-1941, from the Bureau of Indian Affairs, giving the name of eachstudent and their parents, and the number of the case file to refer to for further information.

Mount Pleasant Indian Industrial Boarding School in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, was established by an act of the United States Congress in 1891. This provided funding for creation of an education system of off-reservation boarding schools and vocational training centers to educate Native American children.
