Sonnichsen research collection, 1972-1991.

Summary: Correspondence, research notes and photocopies, summary notes of interviews, a small amount of photographs, and articles and book manuscripts are present resulting from C.L. Sonnichsen's research about William Cornell Greene, and the history of Tucson, Arizona, with a lesser amount about Tom Jeffords, the history of the Arizona Historical Society, and other interests. Much of the Greene research was copied from AHS collections but there are notes of interviews about Col. Greene with several people including Bill Adams, Stephen Aguirre, Joseph (Mack) Axford, Mrs. Burton deVere, John Gilchriese, William H. Holmes, Kirk Greene, Frank Greene, Tom Farrel, Ira Joralemon, Bill Kennon, and Raymond L. Reid. There are also student papers that index the Bisbee Daily Review's articles about labor unrest from 1901 to 1910 (f.26). Other highlights include research about Helen D'Autremont's hotel, Christopher Square Inn; the Kansas Settlement and Rev. William Warren Curtis in Light, Arizona; a three-page letter from Rachel Mix Herrera reminiscing about Lochiel in 1903-1904; a letter by Josephine Earp asking Sonnichsen to refrain from writing about Wyatt Earp (f.11); extracts from Thomas Saarinen's unpublished book Territorial Tucson (f.171); and newspaper clippings about Joseph Bonanno (f.177). Photographs are copy prints and include images of Cananea Cattle Company cowboys and the 1906 Cananea miners' strike. Also present is a manuscript for the book 'Border Patrol' by Clifford Perkins that contains material not found in the published version.
