He wrote or edited 34 books and numerous articles during his career including "Colonel Greene and the Copper Skyrocker" in 1974, and "Tucson the Life and Times of An American City," in 1987.

Educator, author, public speaker, and historian.
Born in 1901, Charles Leland Sonnichsen earned his BA in English from the University of Minnesota in 1924. He went on to Harvard for his Masters (1927) and Ph. D. (1931) before taking a position as Associate Professor of English at the Texas College of Mines and Metallurgy. In 1933, he became Head of the English Department until 1960 when he became Graduate Dean. He retired from UTEP in 1972 as Professor Emeritus and died in 1991 at the age of 89.
