Papers of the Wade and Hodgkins families of Ipswich, Mass. Includes order books, weekly returns, and list of payments to soldiers in Col. Nathaniel Wade's Regiment in the Massachusetts Militia during the Revolution, 1775-80; letters sent by Joseph Hodgkins to his wife while serving in Nathaniel Wade's Regiment, 1775-76; and letters received by Sally [Sarah], Martha and Patty [Patience] Hodgkins from friends Mary Chase, Judy Boardman, Ruth Dodge, and others including courtship letters from Mark Haskell to Patty, 1793-1809. Also includes Nathaniel Low's deeds for land in Ipswich, 1755-60; Wade and Hodgkins family genealogical information compiled, 1884-95; and a letter received by Herbert T. Wade from the Rhode Island Historical Society regarding research, 1936.

Ten companies comprised the 12th Regiment, Massachusetts Volunteer Militia: five from Boston, one from North Bridgewater, one from Abington, one from Weymouth, one from Stoughton, and one from Gloucester. After organization was completed, the regiment was ordered to Fort Warren in Boston Harbor.
