Mary Coyle Chase (1906-1981) was a Denver based playwright and screenwriter best known for her play and feature film: Harvey. She was a journalist for the Rocky Mountain News and was married to fellow News reporter: Robert Lamont Chase (1905-1990).

Mary Chase (1907-1981) was an American playwright, author, and newspaper reporter known for her play Harvey, the story of Elwood P. Dowd and his imaginary, six-foot tall rabbit. Harvey won a Pulitzer Prize and was made into a movie starring James Stewart. Chase incorporated elements of fantasy drawn from Irish folktales into her work, such as banshees and Celtic pookas (spirits in animal form).

On February 22, 1845, Mary Chase of Baltimore, Md., petitioned the Commissioner of Patents to grant her a patent for improvements to a carding and spinning machine. The patent was not granted.
