The Mormon Church and its Negro doctrine, 1958, November 22.

Term paper written by Oral Boyd Mathias for a Graduate Social Science Seminar at the University of Kansas City (Missouri). The paper discusses racial views held by Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, from Joseph Smith and Brigham Young's beliefs on slavery before and during the American Civil War until the time of Mathias' writing (1958). Mathias concludes that outdated Church doctrine relating to the exclusion of African-Americans from priesthood within the Mormon Church (doctrines that he argues may have been influenced as much by political circumstances as divine revelation) should be re-evaluated for the sake of Christian morality. Presented as a term paper at the University of Kansas (Missouri) on November 22, 1958. Typewritten manuscript autographed by the author.

1 typewritten manuscript : 36 p.
