Oral Boyd Mathias was born on February 4, 1926, in Ogden, Utah. He served in the Air Force during World War II and completed a two-year mission in Norway as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After earning several advanced degrees, including his Ed. D. in Science History, Mathias moved to Stockton, California, in 1965 and taught science courses at the University of the Pacific. He died on September 26, 2009.
