Records relate largely to mill activity and include financial ledgers, 1878-1883; bills payable, 1879-1882; trial balances, 1877-1881; and cash disbursements, 1882-1883. The disbursements are headed Brooklyn, N.Y. and may originate with the C.B. Rockwell Co., a yarn supply business in Brooklyn. Also includes yarn department sales books, 1877-1883, with orders, goods returned and yarn samples; a volume of payroll records, 1882; yarn production records, 1883; and processing records, 1881 and 1883. Yarn samples are included in the order and production records. Also includes a design book belonging to Charles B. Rockwell, Blackstone, Mass. Rockwell became head of the yarn department at Tingue, House in the 1870's.

The company, located in New York City, was founded in 1872 by W.J. Tingue and Charles W. House. They were importers and suppliers of mohair, genapppe, worsted, cotton and spun silk yarns and noils for cassimeres, coatings, dress goods, flannels, etc. They also imported camel's hair noils. By 1876 the company had acquired the Hawthorne Mill in Glenville, Conn.; this mill manufactured felt and felting, especially for mechanical purposes.
