Martin J. Anderson collection, 1809-1995.

The material focuses on Anderson's research about early explorations of the Grand Canyon by watercraft. The 1869 and 1872 expeditions of J.W. Powell and his associates (Dellenbaugh, Thompson, and others) are the major historical emphasis of the collection. Post-Powell expeditions dealt with herein generally occurred before commercial river running through the Grand Canyon became practical and popular; therefore, most of the material covers the period 1869-1963, before the creation of Lake Powell.
