Scrapbook of speeches, 1854,1871, includes newspaper clippings of speeches mostly made by prominent politicians, including U.S. senators, Pres. Lincoln, and other noted orators, on topics such as slavery, the abolition of slavery, the Civil War, politics, and elections. The v. is indexed in the back. A note on the inside front cover reads" Scrap book kept by Lemuel Clute. Donated to Hall-Fowler Memorial Library [Ionia, Mich.] by his son, Wm. K. Clute, Feb. 15, 1930." The front cover is almost completely detached from the v. Loose clippings are inside the back cover. The cover is green with leather spine and trim.
