The collection contains notes on interviews Epps conducted as background material for his novel on the Virginia gubernatorial campaign of 1973. Among those interviewed were Gerald Baliles, Charles McDowell, Andrew Pickens Miller, Richard Obenshain, William B. Spong, Doug Wilder, and J. Harvey Wilkinson. The material also includes notes from the Norfolk Virginian Pilot; an outline; background notes on some interviewees and prominent politicians including Mills Godwin and Henry Howell; "Who's Who in America" biographies; and some manuscript pages from the novel.
