Contains the following types of materials: photographs, photo albums, postcards, positive x-rays. Covers the following wars: Spanish-American War; World War I (WWI); World War II (WWII); Korean War. Contains photographs of the following military units and organizations: Medical Corps, U.S. Army. General description of the collection: The William H. Moncrief photograph collection covers the span of service of both William H. Moncrief and his son, William H. Moncrief, Jr. About half of the collection deals with personal / family matters which are nonmilitary related. There are some very good photographs for the Spanish-American War and many of the Philippine Islands and native life there, as well as, scenes of cities, villages, and countryside. Moncrief, Sr.'s service in World War I, the 1920's, and 1930's are covered showing medical boards, numerous Army hospitals, Walter Reed Medical Center, etc. There are also numerous staff photos, many showing nurses. The photos of Moncrief, Jr., are very typical for the period 1945-1975. Promotion ceremonies, ground breaking ceremonies, sports activities, wounds and operating procedures, positive X-rays, and other medical staff-related duties in the States and Korea all portray the career of an Army medical officer. There are numerous photos both of Moncrief, Sr., and Moncrief, Jr., which show their civic and consultant activities following their respective retirements and much material dealing with their family lives, travels, vacations, houses, etc.
