William H. Moncrief, Sr., began his United States (U.S.) military career in 1898 as an assistant surgeon with the 2nd Georgia Volunteers in the Spanish-American War. He served in the Medical Corps and attained the rank of colonel. Moncrief, Sr., retired from the Army in 1949. The son, William H. Moncrief, Jr., began his military service with residence training at Fitzsimons Army General Hospital, Denver, Colorado in 1945. He also attained the rank of colonel and served in the Medical Corps. Moncrief, Jr., retired from the Army in 1975. Both men served with distinction at numerous Army hospitals and other assignments.
