Gleason's work for the Arnold Arboretum & his involvement with New England horticultural shows brought him in contact with owners of the private gardens he photographed. Mass. gardens incl. Mrs. C.S. Houghton's; Crane Estate (with views of herbaceous garden & labyrinth); topiary at Walter Hunnewell Estate; Round Temple and Italian Garden at Weld Estate; & many varieties of roses at Mrs. Harriet Foote's rose garden. Newport, RI gardens incl. perennial garden & lily pool of Mrs. Hugh D. Auchincloss, Blue Garden of Mrs. Arthur Curtiss James & Petunia Garden at home of Hubert Vos. Photographed lily pool & front entrance of Louis C. Tiffany's home. Identified individual and group portraits: Mrs. W. Scott Fitzgerald, Mrs. C.S. Houghton, Elizabeth Johnson, Eudelle Manchester, Mrs. Richard D. Sears, Mrs. L.S. Tuckerman, Duncan Finlayson & family, Dr. & Mrs. J.E. Goldthwait, Mrs. Hodson & Mrs. Devoe, & Mr. & Mrs. Arthur Perry, Miss Browning, and Miss Isabella Duguid. Arthur Perry & Dr. F.C. Hall families prominent in homes & gardens of Nahant, Mass. Ports. of Penelope Perry's garden wedding listed under Dover, Mass. Also several garden images at Lowthorpe School. Images also incl. 8 distant shots of S.S. Leviathan, originally the "Vaterland," a German ship. Prints from some negatives were sold to local nurseries & some prints were used by Gleason for Christmas cards.
