Enclosing (not present) a cheque a cheque for Nye [who was performing renovations on Gad's Hill], and mentioning that Dickens expects to return to Gad's Hill [from his tour with Wilkie Collins] on Tuesday or Wednesday. Noting that "Pumps deferred make the Heart sick," but acknowledging that "the complaint is not of [Austin's] engendering." With a postscript discussing the possibility of adding a conservatory to Gad's Hill, thinking that "it would make such a difference in its value."
