Kathinka Sutro-Schücking scrapbook, 1869-1890.

Mounted clippings of a novella and a story published by Kathinka Sutro-Schücking in American German-language newspapers, along with clippings of two feuilleton pieces that she published in German newspapers. The novella, Eine liebelose Ehe, and the story, Caroline Wasenberg, both contain occasional handwritten emendations, presumably in the hand of Sutro-Schücking. The novella takes place mostly in New York City and upstate New York, and partly in Chicago and elsewhere in the Midwest; the second work appears to be set in Germany. Of the feuilletons, Die Schule der amerikanischen Philosophen concerns New England transcendentalism; and Die verlassene Frau eines Bonaparte is about Elisabeth Patterson Bonaparte, of Baltimore. The last piece has no printed attribution, and is signed by hand at the end: Kathinka Sutro. The sources and dates of the clippings are mostly noted by hand.
