The George King collection consists of photographs, albums, scrapbooks, correspondence, and manuscripts pertaining to early aviation in Alaska. The photograph series (Series 1) consists of five photograph albums and two folders of loose photographs. The albums cover the years from circa 1915 through 1964. Topics depicted include aeronautics and mining. Of particular interest are the photos and news clippings on the search for pilot Carl Ben Eielson. There are also photographs of Eielson, Joe Crosson, and other pioneer bush pilots; expeditions such as the Wilkins Arctic Expedition; and European scenes, taken while King was working for the Junkers Corporation. There are also scenes from Russia, taken while King was coordinating an over-the-pole flight. While there, he helped coordinate the Russian search for Eielson. The manuscript materials (Series 2) are made up of two scrapbooks of clippings and photographs; correspondence with such notables as Sir Hubert Wilkins, Rex Beach, Sam White, Vilhjalmur Stefansson, Carl Lomen, and Jimmie Doolittle; diaries and daily logs from 1926, 1929, and 1940; and drafts of autobiographical writings. There are also drafts for the publication "Observation of an American Aviator and the Organization of the Eielson Relief Expedition in Russia" and a handbook and other ephemera related to the Secret Order of Quiet Birdmen, a fraternal organization of pilots.
