Jeremy Bentham letter, 1807.

Collection of English lawyer, philosopher, and author, Jeremy Bentham, consists of one unpublished, holographic letter written June 15 1807 to Sir Samuel Romilly. In the letter, Bentham requested Romilly's opinions regarding a pamphlet written by Bentham on the subject of reform in the Scottish courts.

Romilly, an English lawyer and law reformer, practiced mainly on the Chancery side. He served as Solicitor General in All-the-Talents Administration (1806), and secured repeal of an Elizabethan statute making it a capital offense to steal from a person (1808).
