Contains the following type of materials: photographs. Covers the following wars: Mexican Border Disturbance, World War II (WWII). General description of the collection: The Russel B. Reynolds photograph collection consists of photographs on the entire life of Major General Reynolds from infancy to his military retirement in 1949. Box 1 is an overview, containing loose photos from all periods. Box 1 contains: portraits and childhood photos; Michigan National Guard on the Mexican border in 1916; Civilian Conservation Camp (CCC) Camp Meriwether, Georgia circa 1935; aerial bombing photos, 1943; miscellaneous uncaptioned WWII photos; destruction in Manila, Philippines in 1945; Japanese surrender at Baguio, Philippines; Japanese atrocities and war crimes trials of General Yamashita and General Homma; award presentations in the late 1940s; album of Special Services activities from 1944 to 1948; Special Services Conference in 1947; miscellaneous photos from his career between 1918 and 1949; and numerous family and friends. Box 2 holds photos from five disassembled albums, the subjects of which all deal with special services: medals for merit presentations 1946; European Command (EUCOM) inspection 1948; Berchtesgaden 1948; and two Special Services School albums. Box 3 contains a family scrapbook / album from 1913 to 1916. It includes photos of family, friends, University of Wisconsin scenes and Michigan National Guard on the Mexican Border. A second album is of Japanese General Yamashita's war crimes trial in Manila in 1945. Box 4 contains one large album covering General Reynolds and Mrs. Reynolds touring Europe in 1948. Most of the photos are touristy types, with many picture post cards. The single large album in box five shows Manila and the Philippines in 1945 and life with the War Crimes Tribunal. In the back of it are additional photos taken in North Africa, England and France during WWII.

Enlisted 1917. As Captain stationed at Camp Custer and Camp Sherman, Ohio (1922-25) and later the U. of Pennsylvania. During World War II was instructor at Carlisle Barracks, Pa. and assigned to staff of General George C. Marshall as Lt. Colonel. As Major General was president of a military commission convened to prosecute Tomoyuki Yamashita. Continued to compile the OFFICER'S GUIDE and other military handbooks through the 1960's.
