Sarrels papers, 1892-1957 (bulk 1892-1901).

Summary: Typescript correspondence, photographs and other personal papers concerning Maude Sarrels' friends and family activities. There are photographs of Tempe Normal School student friends in the mid-1890s including the Davenport, Parker, and Cole families as well as schoolteachers and friends in Gila Bend, Arizona. There are a few photographs of the Tucson area including Lexington Stable, Ida Howell's boarding house on South Fifth Avenue, the Carnegie Library, San Xavier Mission, San Agustin Mission ruins, and a Tohono O'odham home. Other images include a Douglas, Arizona bullfight and a Southern Pacific train wreck at Esmond, Arizona. There are two S.P.R.R. engineer report books, dated 1929. Also present is a membership list of the National Women's Party, Tucson branch, dated 1938 and a newspaper clipping about the organization. There is also a small amount of material about the Sarrels homestead near Golf Links and Pantano Roads. Typescript correspondence between family members is also present.

Biographical note: Maude Jennie Welcome arrived in Gila Bend, Arizona in 1887. She graduated from Tempe Normal School about 1895 and was a schoolteacher in various small towns prior to her marriage. In Tucson, she lived briefly with Miss Ida Howell before marrying Hudson Oran Sarrels, a Southern Pacific Railroad engineer, in Tucson in 1903.
