Wan Lee, the pagan, n.d.

The collection consists of the original 26-page holograph manuscript, signed, with substantial additions and deletions by the author, together with 4-page long galleys for Scribner's magazine, with many authorial corrections. The story chronicles the short life of the memorable imp, Wan Lee, who magically appears as an infant in a Chinese magic show in San Francisco in 1856 only to be murdered ten years later when a mob "of her citizens set upon and killed unarmed, defenseless foreigners, because they were foreigners and of another race, religion and color, and worked for what wages they could get."
