Letter, 1855 Feb. 24 (Washington, D.C.) to R.M.T. Hunter, Chairman of the Committee on Finance, Senate.

Letter informing Senator R.M.T. Hunter of the arrival of agricultural specimens collected by James Morrow of South Carolina while accompanying Commodore Perry's expedition to Japan, 1852-1855, and requesting an opinion re compensation due Morrow for his services. Hunter received this letter due to his position as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance. Marcy does not identify the agricultural specimens collected, but acknowledges receipt of the plants at the Dept. of State and the impending transfer of the collection to the Dept. of the Interior; Marcy also notes enclosure of a letter [not present] from James Lawrence Orr and William Waters Boyce, who were the U.S. Representatives from South Carolina that prompted Morrow to pen this letter.
