Beaumert Whitton was born in Ridgeway, Pa., in 1910 to Agnes Winchester and Earle Whitton. His family moved to North Carolina in 1916 and he grew up in Charlotte. Whitton attended Charlotte public schools and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 1928 to 1930. He graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1933 with a degree in construction engineering.
