Heinrich Valentin Schumann was born in New Braunfels, Texas, February 18, 1868. After attending local schools, he entered an apprenticeship with Dreiss Drugstore in San Antonio, Texas. He later attended the Maryland College of Pharmacy in Baltimore, Maryland, and graduated on March 26, 1889. Returning to Texas, he purchased the drug store of Alex Reszczynski in New Braunfels and opened for business on October 8, 1890.
