These records document steps taken to establish PIM as a not-for-profit organization. Other records document business of the LMMA and PIM's responsibilities for that after LMMA's dissolution. Records include official documents, both originals and copies, pertaining to PIM's incorporation; applications and documents pertaining to tax exemption; insurance policies, lease information, applications and permits for second-class and bulk postage rates; financial reports; material pertaining to dispensation of bequests made to PIM; and correspondence pertaining to all business matters. There are also completed tax returns for PIM for 1976 through 1986. Principal authors of correspondence were PIM staff members James Mayer, Paul Strege, Walter Meyer, and Marion Kretzschmar. The records also contain material for the Lutheran Medical Mission Association (LMMA) as it related to PIM and its managing of LMMA business affairs after the LMMA dissolution in 1982. Items include documents pertaining to LMMA's incorporation, bylaws, and constitution. The majority of the LMMA material concerns the business of its dissolution and the resulting responsibilities for PIM. These items include official documents pertaining to LMMA's dissolution and also matters of disbursement of funds from LMMA bequests. Throughout the records is correspondence relating to matters of LMMA dissolution and disbursement of bequeathed funds. Primary authors of correspondence are Dr. Wolfgang Bulle, Director, LMMA, and James Mayer and Paul Strege, PIM staff members. Original folder order was retained and duplicate items were removed.
