Summary: Account book listing legal services provided and charges by customer name for the legal business of Marcus A. Smith and J.L. Lisle, dated 1877 to 1883. The earlier entries, 1877 to 1880, relate to cases in Kentucky. The later entries, 1881 to 1883, concern Cochise County court cases (pages 78 to 94). An index is present of customer names. Customers include J.N. Myers, Edward Byrnes, W.T. Lowry (Palace Saloon and Allen St. Saloon), Milton Hicks, and the Tombstone Club. There is an entry for Ike Clanton, et. al. for services in the prosecution of the Earp Brothers and J. Holliday charged with murder of William Clanton and the McLowery Brothers. There are also notes about the Last Decision vs. Intervenor Mining Company case involving William Allen, Wyatt Earp, and J.H. Holliday (p. 98-106).

Biographical note: Marcus A. Smith and J.L. Lisle may have been law partners in Kentucky. Smith was born in Kentucky and practiced law in Lexington in the 1870s. He practiced in San Francisco from 1879 to 1880, then migrated to Tombstone. He served as Cochise County Attorney from 1883 to 1885 then went into private practice.
