Discussing the separation of Frederick and Anna Dickens and the "reasonable point of an annual allowance." Doubting Thompson's suggestion of Life Assurance because "it couldn't be afforded" and because "a young lady who marries under such circumstances takes her chance of her husband's life." Expressing reservation at either of them suggesting this, noting that "any proposal from us will only draw us into difficulty" since neither Mr. Weller [Anna's father] nor Frederick have proposed anything. Stating "They must go on. We can do nothing."
