General description of the collection: The Thomas T. Handy papers include transcripts of two oral histories of General Thomas T. Handy conducted by Lieutenant Colonel Edward M. Knoff, Jr., in 1947 and Major Floyd J. Davis in 1981. The David interview was conducted as a graduate school project at Trinity University and concentrates on Handy's WWII service. The Knoff interview covers his entire career from commissioning (1916); service with numerous artillery units (1916-1929); War Plans Division (1936-1940 and 1941-1945); Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army (1945-1947); Commander-in-Chief, European Command (EUCOM) (1949-1952); and Deputy Commander-in-Chief, European Command (1952-1954).

Thomas T. Handy was born in 1892; career army officer; served with numerous artillery units (1916-1929); served in both world wars rising to rank of general in 1945; assigned to War Plans Division (1936-1940, 1941-1945); and was assistant chief of staff for operations and deputy chief of staff under George C.
