Correspondence, July 21, 1849-Feb. 11, 1852 (4 letters), from Gregory in the Rocky Mountains and Calif., to his parents and friends in Kalamazoo (Mich.), describing the hardships of his overland journey to Calif. and his jobs there on a ferryboat, in a tavern, as a driver of an ox team, and as a bookkeeper. He also mentions the prospects of gold mining, acquaintances, and the "great temptation to vice and degredation" there. Typed transcriptions are included for the last two letters.
