Papers ca. 1824-1956 (bulk 1850-1922).

The Jerome Family Papers consist of a scrapbook; an autograph album; a commonplace book; a spelling book, course records, and school catalogue; biographical and genealogical information; and photographs. The individuals represented are relatives of Jennie Gilbert Jerome, a graduate of Mount Holyoke College. The material relates to her grandmother Elizabeth Gilbert Jerome; her aunt Jennie G. Jerome; her mother Elizabeth Maude Jerome; and her brother Gilbert Nelson Jerome. Much of the collection consists of items dating ca.1914-1922 and 1956 that relate to Gilbert Jerome-- a tribute; a biography written by his mother (1920); and pages from the International YMCA College yearbook (1914). There are photographs relating to his military service and death in World War I including images of him with his plane, his funeral and burial sites in France and Connecticut, and the memorial stone and Tiffany window commissioned in his honor for the Plymouth Congregational Church in New Haven. Material for Elizabeth Maude Jerome consists of a scrapbook of small embossed die-cuts (ca.1876), an autograph album (ca.1877-1881) with signatures from Hartford Female Seminary, and her obituary. Material for Jennie G. Jerome dates from 1873-1879 when she attended Hartford Female Seminary, including "A Spelling-Book for Advanced Classes" by W.T. Adams (1873), her notes for her studies, and a school catalogue. Material for Elizabeth Gilbert Jerome consists of a commonplace book (1850-ca.1870). Jerome family material consists of a poem written for a relative (1848) and information about Gilbert and Jerome family members as recorded in a Bible ca.1824-1939. Rounding out the collection are two photograph albums from the 1860s to ca.1900 that contain images of Gilbert and Jerome family members and cartes-de-visite of well-known individuals including American presidents and generals and American and English authors.
