Elizabeth Gilbert Jerome (1824-1910) lived her entire life in Connecticut. She married Nelson B. Jerome in 1858. They had two daughters, Jennie G. (1861-1887) and Elizabeth Maude (1864-1939); both attended Hartford Female Seminary in the 1870s. Elizabeth Maude Jerome married Yuan Phou Lee in 1887. They had two children, Jennie Gilbert Jerome (1888-1979) and [Amos] Gilbert Nelson Jerome (1889-1918). She divorced Lee and raised the children with her mother. The son received a Ph. B. from Yale University in 1910 and a Bachelor of Humanics degree from the International YMCA College (Springfield, Mass.). He was the first Scout Executive of the New Haven Boy Scouts of America. When the United States entered World War I, he volunteered as a pilot. He was commissioned as a First Lieutenant and sent for training in Paris, France. He flew for the French Army and was killed near Blamont, France in July 1918. He was initially buried in a German military cemetery near Blamont then moved to an American military cemetery in Argonne in 1919 and finally reburied in New Haven in 1921.
