United Packinghouse Workers of America Local 1135 represented workers at the Iowa Beef Packers (IBP) plant in Fort Dodge, Iowa. In 1968 the UPWA merged into the Amalgamated Meat Cutters and Butcher Workmen of North America. Local 1135, like other UPWA locals, became a "P" local of the AMCBW. In 1970 Iowa Beef Packers became Iowa Beef Processors. Local P-1135 struck in 1969 in sympathy with Local 222's strike against IBP in Dakota City, Nebraska. From the description of Amalgamated Me...

Iowa Beef Processors, Inc. (IBP) was founded in 1961 in Denison, Iowa. In 1967, they opened a boxed beef operation at the company's new Dakota City plant complex, one of the first large-scale beef-processing plants in the nation, and revolutionized meat processing. Because of IBP's movement into pork and other value-added areas, Iowa Beef Processors became IBP, Inc., in 1982. The company merged with Occidental in 1981.
