John Dos Passos papers [manuscript], 1908-1967.

The papers consist primarily of family photographs. There is also a certificate from the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei conveying the first international Antonio Feltrinelli award to Dos Passos, 1967. The collection also contains four letters from Dos Passos to Patrick Murphy, three of which are illustrated with watercolors, discussing the rainy weather, summer activities, and the gift of a jade Aztec idol for a talisman. One of the letters describes an incident with artist [Henry?] Mike [Strater?] and Ernest Hemingway who accidentally shot himself while shooting sharks in the "Pilar" off Bimini. The collection also contans a letter, 1940, from Frances McFadden to Katie Dos Passos, enclosing photographs. Photographs from Dos Passos's trip to Argentina in 1948 include one of guachos and two of Dos Passos with Juan Peron. There are also photographs of Dos Passos as a boy with his parents and on board his father's yacht the "Gaviota."
