Correspondents: T.F. Dillon Corker, F.G. Fleay, Charles [Edward] Flower, J.H. Friswell, William Heinemann, the mayor [of Stratford-upon-Avon], Samuel Neil, J. Parker Norris, M.W. Rooney, and others. Letters (5), (7), (35) to Fleay express the opinion that the Henslowe Diary had been tampered with, probably by Collier; (11-16) discuss the reasons for assigning a 1605 date to Ben Jonson's letter to the Earl of Salisbury, written while he and Chapman were in prison, presumably for writing Eastward Ho! not Sejanus; (38-39) discuss the sources of Hamlet and the possibility that part of the 1603 quarto may have been written in shorthand. (49-59) to Heinemann discuss his bibliography, Goethes Faust in England und Amerika and suggests additions; (50) states that he believes his "collection of English Fausts unrivalled." (61) to the Mayor [of Stratford-upon-Avon] discusses the possibility of opening Shakespeare's grave which Ingleby favored. (65-117) to Norris discuss the text and interpretation of Shakespeare's works, certain word usages, the works of Shakespeare scholars in England and America, the quarrels within the New Shakspere Society, centering around Furnivall, and their mutual interest in Shakespeare's portraits; (68) gives his reasons for thinking that "the Stratford bust is the best authenticated likeness" of Shakespeare; (82) discusses the authenticity of the death mask; (116) posits the belief that the Collier family will try to saddle Peter Cunningham with Collier's forgeries after his death. (118) to Rooney requests any information he has on the newly discovered copy of the 1603 quarto of Hamlet. Also, 9 letters and 1 postcard to Ingleby, 1878-1883, from The Autotype Co., F.G.
