Steve White family papers, 1915-1934 1918-1919.

The collection consists of letters and printed material. For preservation reasons, the items were removed from a postcard album. Most of the letters are from Steve White to his sister (Daisy White), mother (Marietta Frey White), father (Napoleon B. White), and brother (George N. White) in Marietta, Georgia. The letters describe camp life with an emphasis on meals, health and plans to come home. There are also letters to Daisy White from her soldier friends stationed in France and letters to Ethelene Clay in Rome, Georgia, from Arthur C. Rollins. The printed material includes clippings, pictures of flags of the allies, and books for soldiers such as "The soldier's French phrase book" and "Bombs, bullets, and battleships." There are a total of 52 letters and 16 pieces of ephemera.

Steve Clay White was born August 5, 1896 and lived in Marietta, Georgia. He was a private in Company A, 147th Machine Gun Battalion, 41st Division. He was sent to France in November 1918 after World War I was over and returned home in June 1919. He died on February 2, 1960 and is buried in Marietta National Cemetery.
